Patrice Carmichael

Patrice Carmichael is a visual artist working across media. Her practice begins from the photographic narrative exploring quiet, wild landscapes. She considers the species and people before taking her practice to painting. These images redefine nature in her own realities of colour and shape. Her current work explores these questions: How do we cope with such rapid change in our environment? How do we absorb spatial and social vulnerabilities and what effect does it have on us? In 2014 and 2015 Patrice travelled with Parks Canada's "Art in the Park" program to Ivvavik in the Western Arctic, a rare opportunity to experience a protected area. In her third journey to Nunavut in 2017, somewhere between Baffin Island and the Lancaster Sound she camped out on the frozen ocean for a few weeks to meet the area’s mythical whale pods.
